7 Reasons I Believe Bible College is Essential

I’ve spent the majority of my life in the Bible college classroom, both as a student and a teacher. Here are some of the reasons I believe Bible college is essential. 

A life of ministry requires training. A big call requires a commitment to education. We must be equipped for the call. Everyone Jesus called required a season of schooling. Whether the disciples, Paul, or beyond, all went through a time of training. Start strong and become a lifelong learner. 

Know God and His Word. We don’t have to guess about who God is and what He wants us to know. He tells us in His Word. We’re designed for an intimate relationship with Him. Dive deep into God’s Word. Those who are called to teach must hone their skills to handle His Word. 

Doctrine and church history are vital. A strong grasp of our faith’s rich history is crucial for church leaders. The present and future of the church heavily rely on understanding our past. And a solid theological framework lays the groundwork for both the church and its members.

Establish spiritual disciplines. Maintaining a close connection with God is non-negotiable for church leadership. Your spiritual growth will sustain you through the trials of ministry. Light the fire that will last a lifetime. 

Develop your leadership. Now more than ever, the church craves bold, capable leaders who dare to stand firm in the face of adversity, guiding their flock with wisdom and compassion. Church leaders aren’t just figureheads—they’re servants and true shepherds. In a world of shifting sands, we need steadfast leadership anchored on the Rock.

Discover your calling. Not everyone has a clear roadmap for Kingdom work, but the desire to serve the King beats within your heart. It’s not just about finding a job; it’s about discovering your purpose. Dive into ministry assignments, internships, and missions to explore different facets of ministry and find where you are called to serve. 

Find your friends. Everyone needs steadfast friends and mentors for the long haul. Cultivate deep, meaningful connections with fellow Kingdom-minded people that will last a lifetime. After all, God never intended us to navigate ministry alone.
